Form and Texture: A New Series of Cityscapes
The labor of drawing never ceases to challenge and delight. As I study themes for an upcoming project, I bear this in mind, recalling that the materials' simplicity--a disposable pen and a piece of paper--can be deceptive, and success requires careful technique as well as an understanding of balance and composition. Exploring these ideas helps me to visualize the new series, but I need to probe deeper to discover the essence of cityscapes.
I've been reviewing articles on urban planning and thinking about the symbolic life of city spaces, the towering sheets of glass that cast innumerable shadows, hidden enclaves of greenery, and the patina of intrigue that haunts our memories. If you have ever wandered the streets of Midtown Manhattan as dusk emerges, excited about the arrival of night, you understand my enthusiasm.
With this in mind, I continue to experiment with form and texture, trying to balance nuanced shapes with bold contrasts. My goal is to imbue each line with its own unique energy and sense of purpose, bringing my cityscapes (and their subterranean reflections) to life.
